Brought my old Braun Paxina 120 film camera with me on holiday. I had meant to ebay some roll film for it beforehand but then didnt get around to it. Think the last time I used a medium format camera was when I took my mom's aged box with me to the Tower Of London when I was a Cub Scout! So I don't actually know how to put film in them either (which was another reason for wanting to have gotten some film before the holiday).
While we were out in Rastede the other day I walked into the local photo shop
and asked the oldest person there if they , by any chance, still had a spool of roll film anywhere and if so then would they fit it for me. The old 'Master' (Germany still has 'Journeymen' and 'Masters') found a roll of B&W and said to bring the camera along and he'd put it in....although it had been a while since he'd done it too.
Took it in this morning while the Bestes Frau was collecting her shortened jeans from the Seamstress (German high streets tend to still have a Seamstress shop somewhere). The Old Master fitted the film and explained how to use it. Unfortunately it would take him 8 days or so to get any film I did expose developed so that is no use to me and I'll have to send it in somewhere when we get back to the UK.
Then I asked him what I owed him.
I was expecting and would have quite happily paid a bill of around 20 Euros -then kodak professional 120 roll film must cost at least ₤10 a roll and then there was the fitting "by Master's hand" as they say.
He charged me 2.50 euros in total, for film and fitting!
You can't get a cup of coffee for that these 'bailing out Greece' days!
