Today's 'Dad Hack' was finding a way to set separate notification tones for SMS and Gmail on my Not-So-Smart phone. Not quite as easy as one might think it would be...although there is no doubt an app for it. But for anyone interested it went like this:
So having found out how to set a separate notification for Gmail I wanted to customize it and have the classic
AOL 'You've Got Mail!' as the notification tone. I downloaded an mp3 of the desired tone and also the android app 'RINGDROID' . Installed Ringdroid, opened it, choose the "you.got.mail.mp3" and chose 'Edit', then 'Save' and finally 'Save as notification'. Simples. That makes it appear in the 'Ringtones' menu on your phone -in this case its the '4-750121-1107895' in the photo above.
